The Philosophy

This is a community of friends brought together through a shared love of yoga philosophy and mindful movement. Rooted in the Hatha and Vinyasa traditions, our approach emphasizes intelligent sequencing, intentional breath, and yoga as a healing modality for cultivating strength, balance, and personal transformation.
With over 15 years of development, Yoga Mittra has been dedicated to mentoring practitioners into confident, thoughtful teachers. Since 2010, we’ve proudly offered 200- and 300-hour teacher trainings alongside live classes, ongoing mentorship, educational workshops, and immersive retreats.
Guided by curiosity, collaboration, and deep respect for yoga lineage, Yoga Mittra invites students and teachers alike to study deeply, practice sincerely, and grow together in community.

ABOUT YOUR TEACHER

Shelley Williams began practicing yoga in 1996 while working as a professional modern dancer, initially turning to the practice for healing. What began as support for her body evolved into a lifelong lifestyle and teaching path. She has studied extensively and assisted renowned teachers including Shiva Rea and Max Strom, among other respected guides.

In 2010, Shelley founded Yoga Mittra Teacher Training School, where she continues to lead annual trainings and workshops rooted in the Krishnamacharya lineage. Her teaching blends traditional Hatha Yoga with a Vinyasa flow approach.

Shelley draws from a wide range of modalities to meet the needs of her students, including restorative and yin yoga, Vinyasa and Ashtanga, pre- and postnatal yoga, yoga for recovery, youth and teen yoga, yoga for older adults, somatic healing, breathwork, and meditation.

Testimonial

"I came to Yoga Mittra Training to enhance my practice. I had no intention of becoming a yoga teacher because I already had a profession I was quite happy with. I had no idea that my myopic expectations would be blown way beyond what I could have ever imagined.  Not only did the 200-hour course elevate my mindfulness and awareness of my physical practice, but it had a lasting effect on my spiritual and visceral practice. I shared and collectively created a higher level of consciousness with 26 (Shelley was it 27?) other observant yogis and to this day, we share a bond that is particular and singular. As my 200 hours evolved, so did I. The shift I had ten years ago permeated me and created yogic buoyancy in me and around me ever since. I belong to a bigger idea than I ever knew when I was only confined to a mat. My overall knowledge of the ethical practice of the 8-limbs and all they encompass, the function and use of anatomy, alignment, adjustments, the history and parables....is smart; gifted to me by intelligent instructors and accurate and adequate feedback.

I wear this experience like a commodious garment."
